Mystery in Pera
The origins of the Pera Carpet have a story stretching back to the late Ottoman Empire. Legend has it that a carpet woven in Pera specifically for Sultan Abdülhamid II mysteriously disappeared from the palace. Although traced in the palace archives, no one knows its exact destination. For years, this carpet's whereabouts remained unknown, becoming a legend in Istanbul.
This lost carpet was discovered during renovations in the cellar of an old caravanserai in Pera in the mid-20th century. Interestingly, the carpet's colors were still vibrant and its weaving was still intact. This discovery effectively bridged the gap between the past and the present.
Pera's Story
Pera boasts a fascinating history, reflecting the rich cultural mosaic of Istanbul and the traces of diverse civilizations over the centuries. From Byzantium to the Ottoman Empire, this district, which bridges East and West, has been the heart of art, commerce, and culture. Becoming a symbol of modernization with Westernization movements in the 19th century, Pera continues to live on today as a unique center of attraction, combining a nostalgic atmosphere with the vibrant colors of the modern world.
