Are shaggy rugs difficult to clean?

Because they have long fibers, dust gets trapped between them more easily. However, cleaning them isn't as difficult as you might think. Regularly vacuuming with a brushless (flat) attachment and turning the rug over and shaking it once a week will help dislodge dust from the bottom. Manual vacuuming is recommended as robot vacuum cleaners can get caught in long fibers.

Will their fur become smoother over time?

As with all long-pile rugs, the fibers may flatten with heavy use (from being walked on). However, this is not permanent. When you vacuum or air the rug by hand, the fibers will fluff up again and return to their original shape.
